The district Steglitz-Zehlendorf is located in the southwest of Berlin and is an excellent location for science and research. The district occupies an excellent position in science and research which is shown by the fact that the region has been included in the list of the 11 berlin future locations. Here are just a few facts:

  • The Dahlem campus with the FU Berlin, four Max Planck Institutes, the Zuse Institute Berlin and other important scientific institutions is one of the 4 largest scientific sites in Germany. It is in the ranking of the German Research Association Berlin's leading university and has more than 34,500 students.
  • In addition to the Dahlem campus, institutions such as the BAM (Federal Institute for Materials Research and Testing), the Charité University Medicine with the Benjamin Franklin Campus or the HZB Helmholtz Centre for Materials and Energy shape the scientific image of this district.
  • A lot of companies with thousands of jobs work on three major industrial and commercial areas. Not only must these be maintained (keyword Industry 4.0), but the framework conditions must also be created in order to be at the forefront of the recognisable restructuring process.

Today, science and business are closely intertwined. A large research and scientific location such as Steglitz-Zehlendorf has great potential for business and business start-ups. The "Future City Berlin SÜDWEST" offers the best conditions for this. The Free University of Berlin alone manages more than 20 spin-offs and start-ups per year; together with the other institutions, the number of annual start-up and spin-off companies is over 30.

The FUBIC (Free University Business Innovation Center) will be an excellent technology park with around 11,000 square meters of usable space with a founding center for successful network building, expansions and spin-offs. A total of 60 to 80 companies and 1000 new jobs are expected. The adjacent campus of the Free University of Berlin as well as the walking distance to the other scientific institutions offer the best conditions for successful network formations, extensions and spin-offs.

However, the future location OF SÜDWEST is not limited to the Dahlem science campus alone, but is continuously expanding into the existing industrial areas within a radius of approx. 5 km.
